Wapping Wharf's best foodie date spots...

Written by: Charlie Vivante

If you’re a keen Bristol foodie, you’ll have heard of Cargo. The shipping container mini-town has sprung up at Wapping Wharf as a bustling hub of tiny takeaways, quirky clothes shops and dinky dining options.

The beautiful – and dare we say romantic – views across the glistening water provide the perfect intimate yet casual date setting.

So what better way to impress your partner (in dine) than by taking them on one of these thirst quenching and appetite satisfying dates at one of Bristol’s best indie venues. With so much on offer, it can be hard to know where to start. But don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. We’ve put together a round up of the best date ideas at Wapping Wharf.

#1 Grab a cheese picnic from The Bristol Cheesemongers…

If you can’t get enough of cheese, our date idea at Bristol Cheesemongers will be right up your alley.

Allow Rosie, owner and cheesemonger extraordinaire, to guide you through putting your cheese picnic together, packing your box full of the things you love and the things you don’t know you love yet. Enjoy your cheese selection by the harbour, legs dangling over the water while you sip on some red wine, or take the basket home to indulge from the sofa, in front of your favourite Netflix binge.

#2 Enjoy a Caribbean Feast

Met someone who isn’t a jerk, and likes jerk? Then our Caribbean foodie evening is the perfect date idea for you.

Head to Calypso Kitchen for a proper feed. The platter is groaning with family recipe, caribbean style food including jerk BBQ baby back ribs , jerk BBQ chicken wings, boneless jerk fried chicken in breadcrumbs, BBQ jerk pulled pork, slaw, corn on the cob and all served with a fresh side salad! This is a get-in-with-your-hands and wipe-sauce-from-your-mouth kinda meal, perfect for couples who aren’t afraid to get a bit messy.

#3 Take your tastebuds to India…

If you know Bristol well and wish you could find the time (and the money!) to whisk yourself off to another continent altogether, head to Bandook for a street food tour of India.

Despite never leaving the cool and casual shipping container, you will be taken on a culinary journey across the country with a mix of small plates, large plates, sides, desserts and cocktails served to your table.

We especially love their “Grandmas Curry”, a mild or medium hot curry dish that changes regularly, the masala chips which is a great twist on a much loved British classic and their Masala Chai Old Fashioned, a delicate balance of Early Times Old Reserve whiskey, spice honey and orange bitters.

#4 Beer, ice cream, Asian cuisine & pizza…

Wapping Wharf really does have it all, grab some beers at Wilder Beer, ice cream at Oliver’s Ice Cream, smash the Katsu arancini balls at Seven Lucky Gods or get a takeaway pizza from Pizzarova or Bertha’s.

There really is an unlimited amount of options to choose from so whatever you are after, you’ll be sure to find it at these containers!
